Prayer for the Week: God of the Universe, we look to the sky, we climb mountains and we ponder our ascension into heaven some day. Our faith tends to be so other-worldly, yet you heard the cries of those who were bound in Egypt. You did not dismiss these cries, but responded with a liberating love that guided them as a Pilar of Light. You are the One who heeded the anguish of an Exiled people, and through your prophets, a pathway in the desert was announced – a pathway that required mountains and valleys to be made like a plain. You, O Lord, once again did not decline the call of those under the oppressive hand of Rome. You were attentive to those whose suffering left them lost and afraid. You did not relinquish responsibility to someone else, but chose to take on flesh and dwell among humanity. In Christ Jesus, you once again established the crux of the divine ambition. You do not wish for us, even one of us, to slip away; to feel separated from you; to endure even one moment apart from you. It’s not that you choose to walk away from us. You have brought forth clear evidence that states, unequivocally, that we are never separated from your love. You dwell with us even when we decline to acknowledge your presence. You seek the best for us, even when the world around us seeks to destroy us. Today, we thank you for being more than the giver of life, but the source of life and life again. To you be given all glory and honor. Amen.
