ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHING
January 31, 2022
I got lost in a book the other day. It was a theology book, and though it is not the type of book many folks would choose to get lost in, I did. I’m guessing you have found yourself lost in book or a movie. You might have been swept up in the storyline or awed by the way the author put a new twist on an idea or the way you were left feeling inspired. I wonder how often I get lost in the stories of the faith and the faithful? As I have said before, I do have a pretty good imagination, and I often do find myself walking through a story in the Bible, even interacting with the characters. Yet to be swept up or into a story, you sort of need to be in the right mindset. You can’t just read a few verses fast as you are moving from one activity to another. You need to make time and space so the Spirit can guide you on that journey. I think most of us want to be more observers of the faith. We seek to be followers of Jesus, and it is often helpful to engage the Jesus who called Peter and James and Bartholomew, and desires to call us as well.
God of the Faithful, O God of all Creation, guide me into your story where I am shaped by its power, and then guide me into the world where I can live your story for the sake of others. Amen.
