–Easter Sunday

Good morning! Happy Easter! The tomb is empty! He has risen!

Then comes the, “So what?”

This is where Easter gets good. Too often, we settle with the declarations of this amazing day without thinking about the implications of our claims. The world needs some Easter people, some folks who are standing outside the tomb of a self-absorbed life, having been liberated from the narrowness of fear, and are ready to bring what is truly good, life-giving, joy-filled news to the world.

Happy Easter, world! It is time for us to step outside the tombs of our own making and then to bust down the stones used to entomb others. The tomb is empty, but not simply for a group of first-century women who were the first witnesses of resurrection. The tomb is empty for everyone.

O God of Liberating and Life-giving Love, it is time for the Easter message to be more than a feel-good emblem we utilize for a few hours prior to a good lunch. Make it for us a way of living that beckons others to step away from the confines of fear and into a new way of being. Amen.
