Scripture: Psalm 130:6-7
My whole being waits for my Lord— more than the night watch waits for morning; yes, more than the night watch waits for morning! Israel, wait for the LORD! Because faithful love is with the LORD; because great redemption is with our God!
Thought for the Day: As I read these words, my take away is for us to wait on the Lord, for if we do not, we might just find ourselves ahead of God’s faithful love. Now let me be clear, I do not believe there is anywhere any of us can go where we are outside of God’s love. But in remembering how the Psalms are both prayer and poetry, I picture a child running ahead of his/her parents. The parents keep on saying, “Slow down, slow down,” but the child pays no attention. The parents never stop loving the child, but when they get to the place where they are planning on turning, they have to call on the child to come back and get on the right path home. God’s faithful love might be needed down this road, but if we are charging ahead with no sense of God’s presence, we might miss where it is that God needs us to be.
Prayer: Let me be attentive to you, Merciful God. Let me be vigilant when it comes to discerning your Spirit. I want to follow you, and not pretend it is the other way around. Amen.
