ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS
June 3, 2022
This coming Sunday is not only Pentecost Sunday, but the conclusion of our 50th Anniversary Celebration. We are continuing to collect gifts toward the Special Pentecost Offering that goes to support New Church in our denomination. Before coming to Cypress Creek Christian Church, I was asked to consider being a new church developer. It was intriguing and exciting, but it is one of those situations where I believe my prayerful discernment served me well. It is one thing to find the idea of new church exhilarating and something completely different to have the necessary skills to start a new church. I believe Rev. Glenn Wilkerson had the right giftedness back in 1972, and because he was the right person with the right gifts, the church came to life and has had an immeasurable impact upon the larger community. Yet those truly called to start a new church need, among other things, financial support and training. The Apostle Paul reminded the Church in Corinth how “…there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord…” Maybe my gift was not to start a new church but to help facilitate the financial support of those new churches. I hope you will consider a gift, and it is as simple as texting the amount of your gift to: 833-731-0156.
Holy God, may all the gifts we share be gifts shared for the work of your Kin(g)dom. Whatever my gift may be, I pray for your animating power to surge through me and to bring me to a life of Christ-like service. Amen.
