Ecclesiological Etchings

A word of apology to Tami Nelson who did yesterday’s devotional. When I posted it, I included the incorrect scripture. In moments like this, it is good to remember Albert Einstein who said:

Anyone who has never made a mistake
has never tried anything new.

In this first week of Advent as we discuss the idea of hope, I hope you’ll forgive my mistake and chalk it up to someone who tried…and happened to have failed this time – one failure among many.

So here is Tami’s devotional with the correct scripture…

Scripture: 1 Peter 1:6-7

So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold–though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

Thought for the Day: It was the book that I had waited for, the big red shiny book of Annie the musical, my oldest sister had given it to me as surprise. As I begin to read the book, I found that it  detailed the story of a happy little orphan who faced the obstacle of one day finding her parents, being placed in a filthy group home, and having a morally corrupt caregiver by the name of Miss Hannigan.  Throughout the book Annie kept her optimism even when her fairytale week at mansion seemed to be coming to an end.  Annie’s signature song was “the sun will come out tomorrow, bet your bottom dollar it’s tomorrow.”  Annie was filled with hope and with the anticipation that joy would come in the morning out of a dark night.  As I look to the hope that the birth of Christ brought to the world, I would encourage us today to look beyond our current challenges and toward the hope that lies ahead.
