ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS
June 12, 2022
Recently, I was being a little hard on myself. I don’t know for sure, but it might have been deserved. A friend of mine said, “Show yourself some grace. You’d only be following God’s lead.” That was sort of helpful in the moment. I’m not suggesting we let ourselves off the hook when we need to be challenged on something or need to be accountable for something we’ve done, but it doesn’t mean grace is anything but abundant. The Apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians, “God gave his grace to me, the least of all God’s people…” Though Paul’s ego might have gotten a bit puffed up at times, he regularly acknowledged his past; his mistakes; his injury to others. God was exceedingly gracious, but in order for Paul to fully comprehend and embrace this grace, he needed to comprehend the entirety of his own life. It was only then that transformation could begin and grace could take hold. It’s ok to show yourself some grace. Remember, God beat you to it.
For the magnificence of your grace, O Generous God, I am beyond thankful. Continue to bring me to a place of awareness, so I can appreciate and recognize the gift it truly is. Amen.
