ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS

Prayer for the Week: When my first reaction is to be upset, to lash out or be dismissive, allow for your heart to align itself with my heart, O Spirit of Life. Give me the courage to seek understanding, even if I feel certain that I will never agree; even if it requires me to bite my tongue; even if I find my insides fidgeting with discomfort. Allow me to listen, and not simply to prepare for my critique. Create within me a desire to know the person whose opinion I may not like, but whose humanity, at its core, is no different than my own. Bring me an awareness, O Lord, of those in my own journey who have shown kindness in spite of their disagreements with me. There is grace in my rearview mirror. Friendship does not necessitate consensus on all things, and even if friendship is not in the cards, give me the strength to believe that loving my enemies is more than a slogan, instill within me the conviction that such love will transform the world. Amen.
