A Prayer For India:
An explosion of suffering
A virus – preying on
the elderly and compromised
A healthcare system
pushed to the edge
It is a story we’ve heard before
Lord God
It is a story leaving
many orphaned and alone
As words of gratitude spill from our lips
for vaccines and improved numbers
around us,
we do not forget those who hurt this day
who grieve this day
who are afraid this day
India, among other countries,
is experiencing a nightmarish
surge of suffering
Our hearts ache
as we look for answers
Our minds spin
in search of tangible compassion
Our faith
feels the tug of your Spirit
Lord have mercy!
Lord have mercy upon our souls
and upon all the souls
of the human family who
hurt
grieve
and find themselves afraid this day.
Lord have mercy!
And in your mercy
let us never lose hope
Amen.
