Ecclesiological Etchings

ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHING
November 21, 2021

Today you will hear in worship a hint of the Great Commission, specifically on the word, “Go!” I wrote about this a few days ago in one of my Etchings. The question we face every single day is a question of faithfulness, whether to choose the direction of faithfulness or not. Doing nothing is a choice about direction. Apathy and indifference are statements of faith, just not statements that represent the God revealed in the life of Jesus. As I have spoken of many times in the last three months, faithfulness to Jesus requires knowing Jesus. Early in his ministry, Jesus said to those he encountered along the way, “Follow me…” It was more than a physical following, but an invitation into a way of life. Does your life represent the life of Jesus? We all fall short when it comes to doing so in every minute of every day. It is important to acknowledge this, confess the reality and to seek improvement. Once again, if we want to model our lives after someone, it is important to know that someone. Reading the Gospels, discussing them with others and prayer are all helpful ways of growing one’s knowledge of and relationship with Jesus. Let’s do so…and then get going.

Whatever appears before me this day, Good God of the Universe, I hope my knowledge of and relationship with Jesus allow me to embody love. Provide me wisdom, strength and courage for this good work. Amen.
