Ecclesiological Etchings

ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHING
January 28, 2022

Have you ever had one of those runarounds with your insurance company? We had to switch insurance providers this year, and what should have been simple has been far from simple. It is one of those situations where you’re pretty certain it will all get figured out in the end, but the frustration is real as you wait and wonder. It was John Lennon who said, “If it is not okay, it’s not the end.” The journey of faith appears to be lived within this tension. We know the end of the story, but there are days when it feels as if you are living on the second page of the first chapter. In Romans 12:12, the Apostle Paul wrote, “Be happy in your hope, stand your ground when you’re in trouble, and devote yourselves to prayer.” It sounds to me as if Paul firmly believed God’s love would be victorious in all things, but trying to find some solid ground in the present can be challenging. Prayer is one of the things we can do to attach ourselves to the destination. From there, we can channel the power of unvanquished love into the present moment. It won’t be perfect, but it helps bring hope to others who have lost all hope.

Source of Hope, O Holy God, continue to inspire within me a strong conviction that your love will ultimately prevail in all things. Amen.
