Ecclesiological Etchings

ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHING
February 4, 2022

On this day in 2002, Facebook was launched. Though I use Facebook each day of the week, mostly to post my Etchings and to comment on people’s family photos or maybe a prayer request, I remain a bit cautious when it comes to Facebook. In Proverbs 10, we read: “The wise store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool brings on ruin.” I believe the typing fingers of a fool can also bring ruin. Most everything in life can be used for both good and evil, to bring life or death. What good is it if you post something supportive of your thoughts, but it takes the wise exactly 45 seconds to factcheck and demonstrate its “Pants on Fire” false. Presenting one’s thoughts and defending those thoughts requires a discerning spirit, actual research and some wisdom. To be wise means you go the extra mile and are willing to hold off posting something that may only be partially true. If it is not going to help shift the world toward what is good and healthy, then it might not be something worth posting. And just FYI – the silly animal videos are fine… even the wise need a laugh.

Assist me, Good and Gracious God, in the asking of good questions. Help me to be overly cautious when putting forth my thoughts on important topics. It is always good to ask questions and listen to others. Provide me the patience and curiosity to do both. Amen.
