Ecclesiological Etchings

ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHING
February 18, 2022

Human beings have a tendency to cling to the wrong stuff. Have you ever notice that? We grasp things that appear to provide protection, but so much of what might appear strong and unrelenting is in fact flimsy at best. This wrong stuff may provide us a sense of short term security, but in the end it is all susceptible to rust or inflation or the quirkiness of societal opinion. In his First Letter to the Church in Corinth, Paul wrote about stuff that would fade away. Yet there are exceptions to the rule, among them is love. Things like compassion, mercy and justice are what love looks like in action, and so they do not need an extra coat of Rust-Oleum. They also tend to hold up quite well.

I cling to your Good News, O Lord, that gives me life and leads me into relationships that are life-giving. May the love I know be the love that is expressed in those things with eternal consequences. Amen.

See You Sunday
