ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHING

With trampled palm branches strewn along the road and songs of praise silenced, we find ourselves a bit disoriented as we enter this Holy Week. God of Heaven and Earth and every living creature upon this Earth, we look to you when the joyful entrance of a new and glorious king is quickly written off because of rumors of an intensified loathing among the Romans. Can the king be crucified? Can God enfleshed be executed? The words sound absurd, yet your Saving One, O God, will refuse to save himself. As the road is deserted, there is nothing, except for fear, to keep us from following Jesus into the shadows that grow longer with each passing day. When our faith appears unreliable, have your Spirit nudge us to continue forward. When everyone else has abandoned him, provide us whatever is necessary to continue the journey to the cross. Amen.
