ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS

Psalm 33 tells us how the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord. There is a clear scriptural claim of the earth being full of God’s steadfast love. Not half full or even a pretty decent amount. Full! It is a beautiful and powerful image of love splashing over the top, but then you stand back and ask the question, “Where exactly is all this love?” At times, it feels as if we are running on empty, far from full. Is this love hidden or poorly distributed? Or maybe it is unutilized or underutilized. I sort of think of human beings as containers into which love has been poured, yet in many cases, it remains untapped and just sitting there. What love do you have stored up within you that could be used to uplift or even transform another? You are more than a vessel in which love is to be kept, but a blessed delivery system for all those who yearn for even a hint of this gift.
Holy One, may the love I have received be a love through which others come to know just how precious they are. Amen.
