Ecclesiological Etchings

ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS

Have you ever wished you could go back in time and change something, say something a little differently, respond with less anger or biting sarcasm? I’m not a person with a lot of regrets, but I have a few. In my study on Breath Prayers, it appears as if the participants are beginning to understand the benefits of this prayerful tool. Time travel would be a nice thing to have, but until the technology exists, let us draw upon this simple instrument as a decision is being made, one we could potentially regret at some point in the future. A simple breath prayer can help us to take a step back, allowing us to tap into God’s everlasting presence, and possibly make a choice without the influence of anger, bitterness, frustration, exhaustion, stereotypes, etc. The thing with breath prayers is they only work when they are available, and they are available to us when we have practiced them. It’s then, in the moment, that we are much more likely to reach for the breath prayer before doing anything else. A simple example is as follows…

Inhale: As I breathe in your Spirit
Exhale: Center me more deeply in your love
