ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS

Willa Cather, the famous Nebraska author, said, “Where there is great love, there are always miracles.” Willa Cather understood the power of love to not only produce miraculous happenings but to be a miracle itself. As we read in 1 John, the act of loving one another is the means by which we pass from death to life — a miracle! At the same time, the act of loving others is the greatest expression of life itself — a miracle! Love is not only the means to the destination, but the destination itself. I guess it’s a lot like the season of Advent. Each week we focused on a separate idea (Hope, Peace, Joy and Love) that would help lead us to the manger, and once we arrive at the manger, we shall find wrapped in bands of cloth the enfleshing of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love.
O Lord of Love, I turn to you with jubilant gratitude as I see your love drawing me toward the miracle of your love. Amen.
