ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS

After the death of Moses, God called Joshua into leadership. Someone may feel ready and well prepared for such a task, but there are always those first-day jitters. We can all relate to that experience: first day of school, new relationship, new job, or volunteer experience. In Joshua 1:9, we find the words, “I hereby command you: Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Whatever new circumstance we find ourselves in, we know God is with us in the same way God promised to be with Joshua. But how can we involve God in this new situation? It is more than simply knowing of God’s presence, but utilizing the divine presence for the blessing and enrichment of the new situation. Knowing God is there is like acknowledging an immense reservoir from which we can draw. God is there, so take full advantage of the gift that is offered.

As you promise to walk with me, O Gracious One, may I both acknowledge your presence and allow you to be a participant in all I do. In whatever the situation, allow me to draw upon the gift you are. Amen.
