Prayer for the Week: O God of this sacred season, a season of waiting and preparing, we enter this first week of Advent with hope and a spirit of expectation. Awaken us to the possibilities found within every moment of every day. Amidst the myriad of voices vying for our attention and our credit card numbers, guide us back to the present moment. Cultivate an openness of our spirits as we aspire to discern your message about a child whose birth continues to transform the world. In him, a new definition of joy is found. In him, a new joy will embrace us. We pray with hope and a spirit of expectation. Amen.
(A portion of this prayer comes from the Unison Prayer in yesterday’s worship. The line about credit card number caused a number of people to chuckle in the middle of the prayer. It is sort of funny, though painfully accurate.)
