Scripture: Proverbs 16:24
Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.
Thought for the Day: There was a group of pastors I used to meet with on Wednesday morning for breakfast. I was the small fish among some of the big pastoral fishes in town, and I appreciated that time. On more than one occasion, one of the other pastors would say to me, “You’re kind of quiet, Bruce.” Over the years, I have learned to be mindful of my setting, and when I’m around those from whom I can learn, I tend to close my mouth and open my ears. I didn’t always do that, but years ago I read the words of Mark Twain who said, “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.” The insights of those who are further along the journey are like sweet nourishment to those who are willing to take them in.
Prayer: God, grant me some common sense to shut-up when I am among those whose wisdom will greatly enhance my life. Amen.
