Prayer for the Week:
Do we pray because we must?
Do we pray seeking answers?
Do we pray longing for connection?
Do we pray to have a conversation?
Listening and Ever-present God, we may not always know why we pray, but there is something that draws us back to this sacred habit. There are moments when what we are doing might not fall under the definition of formal prayer, but without thinking about it, we find ourselves conversing with something or someone—our hope is that it is you—as we lie in bed, sit in traffic, walk to the mailbox, or finish eating our lunch. It’s not always in search of answers to existential questions. More often, it emerges from a deep-seated loneliness or sadness that yearns for attention. Even when we’ve convinced ourselves that no one is listening or concerned, there’s something that compels us to continue whispering into the abyss… clinging to the foolish notion that even an abyss cannot be devoid of you. For this, I offer my gratitude. Amen.
