Thought from the Sermon: Forgiveness demands trust, but it’s not necessarily trusting the person who caused the injury. That may never happen. Instead, it involves trusting God and trusting the process. As we grow in this trust, we also learn to trust our own decisions to maintain boundaries we’ve set for our own safety and healing.
Prayer: I’ve often misunderstood the concept of forgiveness to be nothing more than consent for the one who hurt me to repeat those actions. Spirit of the Living Christ, O Jesus my friend, come to my side and whisper to me the joy of forgiveness. May it also include a firm boundary, if that is what is necessary, to ensure my life moving forward is safe and truly my own. May I do this with as many encouraging and affirming voices as possible. Amen.
