Scripture: Psalm 130:7-8
O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him is great power to redeem. It is he who will redeem Israel from all its iniquities.
Thought for the Day: The 16th century reformer, Martin Luther, spoke powerfully when he shared the simple words:
Everything that is done
in the world
is done by hope.
I used to say that hope is wishful thinking on steroids, but on this Pentecost Sunday, let me suggest that hope is holy dreaming that is infused with the Holy Spirit. Christians should never believe that our wishes will come true because we have Jesus on our side. Instead, we are claiming that God’s wishes will come true as we choose to follow the ways of Jesus more closely. As we allow our following to be guided by the Holy Spirit, amazing things will begin to happen.
Prayer: Call me; lead me; empower me. I want to be a part of your future, O Lord, and so I dream and I hope the ways of Jesus, seeking your Holy Spirit to guide me. Amen.
