Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Galatians 5:14
For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Thought for the Day: I don’t know who said it, but I can remember hearing as a child the words:

Stop hating yourself for what you aren’t
And start loving yourself for what you are.

I celebrate those words, but too often there are people who cannot find things about themselves worth loving. So often people’s past or their perception keeps them from seeing what is beautiful and worthy of love. This is where we need to be surrounded by those who will speak the truth to us, pointing out what we may not notice and appreciate. Seek true community where God’s Spirit is able to find a voice that brings healing and a reason for self-love.

Prayer: O God who was revealed in the unconditional love of Jesus Christ, assist me as I seek to love myself as you love me. It is only then that I am able to love my neighbor as you desire me to do. Amen.
