Scripture: Proverb 22:9Those who are generous are blessed, for they share their bread with the poor.
Thought for the Day: Years ago when visiting my grandparents, my grandmother would give me a dime on Sunday morning to put in the offering tray at her church. I don’t remember the specific event, but according to my grandmother, on one occasion I did not place the dime in the tray as it went by. She later asked me why I hadn’t done so, and according to her, I explained how I wanted to hold on to it in case I got a better option. How often do we miss the opportunity to bless someone because we want to wait a little longer to see what other options might come our way? Albert Camus, the French philosopher wrote, “Real generosity toward the future lies in giving all to the present.” Let us not delay in expressing our generous hearts today. Tomorrow could be too late…a least too late for someone in need.
Prayer: Grant me, O Lord, what is needed so my heart is generous and my instinctive compassion is keenly aware of those who would be blessed by that generosity. Amen.
