Scripture: John 14:1
Don’t be troubled. Trust in God. Trust also in me.
Thought for the Day: The Greek word from the original text that we translate as troubled, describes an inward commotion or restlessness. For the person who is troubled there is uneasiness within that has visible implications on the outside. Jesus invites his folks to trust in both God and in him, yet the word trust is really the antithesis of the experience of being troubled. It is to encounter one who is reliable – to trust means that we have confidence. It is one thing to say, “I trust Jesus,” as some dogmatic proclamation. It is something very different to find true stability and reliability that begins to ease the restlessness that has our legs shaking and our world spinning. The life of faith is about growing into a relationship with God through Jesus Christ that creates steadiness in our troubled times.
Prayer: I desire more than empty words of faith. It is you, O Living Lord, that I yearn to know. It is you and your foundational grace on which I can build my life. Amen.
