Scripture: Matthew 18:4
Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Thought for the Day: Archbishop William Temple said, “The Church is the only society that exists for the benefit of those who are not its members.” I agree in theory, but the way the church spends its resources (money and time) doesn’t always support Temple’s ideal. What would an institution look like if it was willing to sacrifice everything, including itself? Most organizations are structured to maintain themselves at any cost, but Jesus called forth people whose single goal was to give themselves away. I would suggest that the church is declining only because it decided to join most other institutions and seek survival as its greatest goal. There is no quicker way to irrelevance and nonexistence.
Prayer: O Gentle King, may your church find greatness as it willingly dies for others. Amen.
