Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Romans 15:7
Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.

Thought for the Day: Yesterday afternoon, the Greater Houston Area became a better place to live. People from two faith communities — Cypress Creek Christian Church and the Islamic Society of Greater Houston — took a risk and did something that is not done as often as it should. People sat down together and talked. A multitude of conversations occurred among people, and amidst these conversations, misconceptions and outright fabrications were replaced with regular stories about children, family, health, jobs, community service, retirement, etc. People asked good questions that sprung from a place of genuine interest and not judgment. More than 100 people gave-up two hours on a Sunday afternoon, and we made Houston a better place to live. If someone asks, “What did you do this weekend?” You can tell them how you completed some significant construction projects by tearing down harmful walls and building bridges of understanding and love. It was incredibly enjoyable, and I believe that God was pleased.

Prayer: Thank you for the spirit of welcome and beautiful hospitality that brought together your children, O Gracious God. Continue to find ways of bringing people together where love eclipses hate and friendship replaces intolerance. Amen.
