Scripture: John 10:3-4
The guard at the gate opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. Whenever he has gathered all of his sheep, he goes before them and they follow him, because they know his voice.
Thought for the Day: Yesterday, I wrote about allowing prayer to become the place where God forms and shapes us. In the devotional, I referenced the need for us to be in relationship with God and to trust God because the shaping and forming might be uncomfortable or even painful. We don’t want to change. We’ve become comfortable with who we are even if it does not exactly reflect God’s values and the dream God has for the world. Notice how in the above passage, the sheep follow the shepherd in and out because they recognize his voice. You only recognize someone’s voice after numerous conversations in which you have actually taken the time to listen to the other person speak. For me, it has never been some booming voice from heaven. It is an unspoken whisper, the voice of a trusted friend, a song with truth greater than the words and music by themselves, the nudge upon my soul from the collective teachings of so many that say it is time to act. Let us get to know the Shepherd as we do more listening than speaking.
Prayer: I am ready, Lord. I am ready to allow your Spirit to begin molding and shaping my life. I am ready, Lord, but continue to remind me of your grace and love in this process of becoming more faithful. Amen.
