Scripture: Psalm 45:1 (the Message)
My heart bursts its banks, spilling beauty and goodness. I pour it out in a poem to the king, shaping the river into words…
Thought for the Day: I love the way the Message translates this verse, and though it goes on to speak about a royal bridegroom, it offers this metaphor of the banks bursting with beauty and goodness. I don’t want to take the metaphor too far, but as we have watched the banks of Cypress Creek burst forth with damaging waters, I also see the hearts of people bursting forth with goodness, generosity and compassion. I have received phone calls, emails and texts from all over the country. I have watched Constables and other First Responders doing amazing work. There are already stories going viral of people being exceptional neighbors even when the person in need was not technically a neighbor. Situations like this often draw the best from people, and though I never believe that God is the source of disasters, I see God’s goodness rising from the spirits of people all over our community. Prayer: Merciful God, there are sisters and brothers who grieve this day because the flood waters were the cause of a loved one’s death. Others are experiencing grief because their home or possessions have been damaged. Others are simply feeling lost and afraid. May your spirit of compassion and hope wrap around these people, and allow it to inspire us to wrap those in need within our own arms and blankets. We thank you for your inspiration seen in Jesus, our example of true compassion and concern. Amen.
UPDATE: The Cypress Creek Christian Church buildings will remain closed on Wednesday (April 20). We hope to enter the buildings and assess the damage at some point during the day (if the waters go down) . All programs scheduled for Wednesday have been canceled. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but we know you understand. Thank you!
