Scripture: Proverbs 16:24
Pleasant words are flowing honey, sweet to the taste and healing to the bones.
Thought for the Day: I have referenced the writings of Richard Rohr on a number of occasions. He runs the Center for Contemplation and Action, and a number of years ago he wrote: The best criticism of the bad is the practice of the better… On this day when our nation celebrates its independence and its highest ideals, the words of Rohr are especially important. In today’s culture (both inside and outside politics), there is a tendency to criticize others – not the merits of the idea – but with name calling and ugly rhetoric. It is about devaluing the other person instead of actually discussing the issues. Rohr challenges us with his thoughts, to reveal what we see as bad or unhealthy by living the better option for all to see. Naming calling and the spreading of inaccurate news stories are much easier than striving to the higher ideals ourselves, but as Christians, the high ideals should be our usual.
Prayer: O God, may my words and my life continue to reveal the best that you have put within me. Make this my greatest yearning. Amen.
