Scripture: Luke 10:35
The next day, he took two full days’ worth of wages and gave them to the innkeeper. He said, “Take care of him, and when I return, I will pay you back for any additional costs.”
Thought for the Day: I occasionally have my son watch a video by Bill Nye the Science Guy. He helps take complex ideas and make them accessible. I think it is more for me, but I’m sure my son gets something out of it. Bill Nye is not only a scientist, but offers some good commentary on life. He wrote:
We are one species. Each of us is much more alike than we are different. We all came from Africa. We’re all made of the same star dust. We’re all going to live and die on the same planet – a pale blue dot in the vastness of space. We have to work together.
In the parable of the Good Samaritan, the unexpected occurs as the Samaritan uses his own resources to take care of the injured man. When someone is in need, we need to come together and use the resources we have to help fill the gap. It is not a one way street, for everyone has gifts that can work together for the common good. We are in this together!
Prayer: Lord, you have made us much more alike than we are different. As we celebrate the uniqueness of each person, let us continue to live together in the recognition of our common humanity. Amen.
