Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Galatians 5:13
For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through love become slaves to one another.

Thought for the Day: Are you a risk-taker?  Are you willing to stop micromanaging and allow a situation to play itself out?  To be honest, I’m not so good at that.  I often like to keep a hand on things which shows very little trust in the gifts and choices of others.  Paul talks about the gift of freedom offered by God, but notice how this gift of freedom allows for the individual to choose other than the One who offered the gift of freedom in the first place.  God trusts the ultimate power of the message, but also respects love to the point of providing enough room for us to decline the gift and the giver.  Wow!  That’s incredible.

Prayer: You created humanity with the freedom to accept or reject you, O Loving Creator.  Such a gift offers me room to exert my freedom and truly enjoy the fullness of life when I freely choose to accept your gift.  Amen.
