ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS
January 1, 2023

Most ministers are excited to write something on the first day of a new year, casting dreams and pontificating grand theological ideas. On this January 1, my energy level is not quite there. Yes, I am excited about TCU winning and moving on to play in the National Championship, but I am also dragging because of COVID. It sort of put a damper on the plans to visit family after Christmas. Yet as I take another dose of Mucus Relief, I am struck by the position I hold as Senior Minister of Cypress Creek Christian Church. I might not be in the best position to do the things Senior Ministers are supposed to do on January 1, but the church is not hindered in the least bit. Cypress Creek is extraordinarily focused right now, and I believe this is rooted in a clear sense of identity—vision and mission. The people of Cypress Creek are growing in their understanding of what it means to be a follower of Jesus in this moment of time and in this historic context. And in doing so, the church is making a monumental difference in the lives of people in our community. We are! And this is because the Spirit is very much alive and driving this new found passion.

Thank you, God, for continuing to be the life-energy of our church, including the vision and mission you have put before us. Amen.
