ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHING
January 23, 2022
In Leviticus 25, we read about an important conviction of the people’s faith – Jubilee. It says, “You will make the fiftieth year holy, proclaiming freedom throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It will be a Jubilee year for you: each of you must return to your family property and to your extended family. The fiftieth year will be a Jubilee year for you.” It goes on to talk about other practices related to the 50th year, many of them having significant economic consequences. Faith is not just a ‘feel good but don’t bother me’ kind of experience. There are moments in the life of any faithful person when there will be dramatic implications in regard to every aspect of life. You may not think it’s the 50th year yet, and so you have no concern. But right at the beginning of Jesus’ ministry (Luke 4), he announced Jubilee. It was a now event, including all of its real ramifications. That’s what we will be talking about in worship today.
Bless all my living, O Lord. Bless it in such a way that faithfulness to your vision is made possible. Amen.
