ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS
February 8, 2026
Big day at Cypress Creek Christian Church! There are times when we pack a lot into a Sunday morning. When we were still in the planning stage months earlier, it didn’t appear to be all that significant. And then the day gets closer, and you think to yourself, “I hope we can pull it off.” We have a One Service Sunday in the Centrum at 10:30am, with baptisms and a guest from Week of Compassion. Both the choir and the contemporary band will be sharing in music. And then after worship, we will enjoy our annual Chili Cook-Off, an event to raise money for the Youth Mission Trip and Disciple Men’s Cooking for Mission (what we raise will be combined with other Men’s Groups in our denomination, with money being sent to the Inman Christian Center in San Antonio). Equally important, the Chili Cook-Off is a fun and community-building event. Remember, bring cash as that is how you vote for your favorite chili. Whenever we can strengthen our church community, we are more likely to find unity in our mission of Putting Love First. The world has seen way too much bickering and division within churches and denominations, leaving a lot of folks saying to themselves, “I don’t want to be a part of that!” But when there is a community driven by a clear sense of Christ-centered purpose, and it is seen consistently among the members of that community, there is often excitement about aligning oneself with such a movement.
Strengthen us, Merciful Creator, as we seek to be your church in the world. Thank you for days like this when we find purpose, joy, new life, and ways of serving others as Christ taught us to do so. May this day provide an opportunity to meet someone new, a connection that will only bring more health and power to all that we do. Amen.
