Scripture: John 13:34
I give you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, so you also must love each other.
Thought for the Day: I absolutely adore Anne Lamott’s writing. Her words are provocative, while at the same time, uplifting. She writes, “Grace is spiritual WD-40, or water wings. The mystery of grace is that God loves Henry Kissinger and Vladimir Putin and me exactly as much as He or She loves your new grandchild. Go figure.” There is a part of me that wants to throw a fit at the thought of equality in love, especially when you include names that might not exactly be on Santa’s Nice List. Yet the moment we begin to suggest even one person might fall outside God’s capacity to love is the moment that love – God’s love – unravels. Let’s try our best not to be in the unraveling business.
Prayer: You have given us a simple command, Lord God, and we ask for your Spirit and the example of Jesus to encourage us in our work. Amen.
