Jesus sent them out to proclaim God’s kingdom and to heal the sick.
Thought for the Day: In the same way that Jesus summarized all the teachings of the Old Testament by telling us to love the Lord God and to love our neighbor, I see Jesus summarizing the HOW we are to love our neighbor by announcing the reign of God’s love and by bringing wholeness to those who have been broken. One without the other can be meaningful, but not the full story. A lot of folks try to tell others that God loves them, but they have no interest in showing them what this love looks like in action. Others are trying to mend the broken without the healing balm of God’s relentless and unconditional love. It sure appears as if Jesus was interested in the complete person, inside and out. No one is fully healed until every aspect of life has been restored, renewed or reborn.
Prayer: Make me an instrument of your Healing Spirit, God. Allow me to see the pain in my neighbor, no matter how it manifests itself. Allow me to be one of the instruments you are able to use in bringing restoration, renewal and rebirth to this world and everyone in it. Amen.
