ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS
March 9, 2023
For some reason, different dance ensembles have been showing up on my social media lately. Most of them are groups in nontraditional settings, though not in flash mob style. I know what good choreographers and good dancers can do, but what I see is only the product of a lot of hard work. I think about the Christian life and the world only encountering the product of good teachers, spiritual choreographers, and a whole lot of practice. I’m not suggesting that our faithfulness is to be a performance, but we hope the world isn’t only seeing our rehearsals. In 1st Timothy 4, we read:
“Train yourself for a holy life! While physical training has some value, training in holy living is useful for everything. It has promise for this life now and the life to come.”
The Season of Lent is like a Forty-Day Challenge to hit the spiritual training hard and kickstart a new level of commitment. What has your consistency been lately? Did you start strong and already find yourself wavering? It’s ok. Today is a new day, and there is no better time than the present to begin again.
This is the day that you have provided, O God, and I come rejoicing. I also come seeking some assistance in taking my faithfulness to a new level. Amen.
