ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHING
April 1, 2022
I was doing a quick check of Facebook yesterday morning when a short video caught my attention. It was a very young child, just learning to walk, who was enjoying his reflection in a mirror. He was giggling and sort of playing a game of peekaboo with himself. A few minutes earlier, I had read a couple of news stories on Ukraine, and then read a troubling story from the local news. There are times when a child’s simple delight and joy are the remedy for the moment. It didn’t solve any problem, whether close to home or thousands of miles away. But maybe it will be our children who will eventually save us or at least lead us to a healthier place. I am reminded of the words from Isaiah 11, “…and a little child shall lead them.” Maybe it is time to allow ourselves to be led by the innocent, vulnerable and unconditional love of a young child.
Wherever your Spirit is attempting to teach and reveal, O Merciful God, make my heart available. And wherever a child is doing what a child does, encourage me to stop, enjoy and learn a little something. Amen.
