Prayer for the Week:
When the grief refuses to subside
When the parades bring no comfort
When the kind gestures do nothing for the pain
I pray for you, Lord God,
To sit with me
To be my companion in the darkness
To be my friend who understands
When so few others can.
I am thankful for Memorial Day,
But I wish my family was not
So directly and personally involved.
I wish this heartache on no one,
But this heartache is real
For his death was real.
May I have the faith
To know Your love
Did not and has not let him go.
Amen.
(This is a prayer I wrote two years ago after a lengthy conversation with an individual who was grieving the death of her spouse in Iraq. She gave me permission to share it.)
