ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS

Prayer for the Week:
I sit on the outside looking in.
Wanting to believe,
Yearning to know,
That your love can reach me.
I am told, again and again,
By good religious people
How your love has conditions,
Conditions I do not meet.
I look to Jesus, study his stories
And I am in awe of a love
That is limitless and relentless.
But those with pious titles
And sanctimonious designations
Tell me your love is unavailable,
That such a gift is not for me.
Today, I want to listen for you,
Be attentive to the voice of Jesus:
Calling me,
Embracing me,
Affirming me.
I wish to believe,
I yearn to know,
That your love has reached me,
Never forsaken me,
Not once forgotten me.
This is what I choose to claim,
In spite of those who cannot imagine
That you’d love one like me.
I hear the compassionate voice of Jesus
And he’s telling a different story,
A joyous and life-giving story.
So with renewed conviction,
I say to him, “I am yours!”
