Scripture: Romans 8:10
But if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
Thought for the Day: Though Paul did not have some sophisticated understanding of the Trinity, there was some loose structure that he gave to this relationship. For Paul, the idea of Christ being within us is another way of saying the Spirit is within us. The righteousness Paul references is the righteousness of Jesus, the right-living or the God-life seen in Jesus. This Spirit was and is fully a part of the Christ, and so for that Spirit to dwell within us is also to have the righteousness of Jesus, the God-life within us. As the book of James suggests, those who are not doers of the word are deceiving themselves. If the Spirit of Jesus Christ, the one who loved unconditionally and fully gave of himself, dwells within us, then our living should resemble the life of Jesus himself.
Prayer: The Spirit is life, and so I am thankful to you, Mighty God, for this part of you being available to me. Amen.
