Religion hellbent on control-
Faith as a tool of someone else’s opinion-
Sacrosanct as an instrument of fear-
Where did we lose Jesus?
Where did we forget the two Great Commandments?
O God, who first loved us, we seek your guidance on this pathway of love. Wherever Christianity has become about control, about imposing someone else’s perceived definition of proper faith, and about instilling fear to achieve submission, we pray to join Jesus on the way. As others battle over preposterous ways of describing Christianity, invite us, as you did the earliest disciples, to follow. The world doesn’t need more religion, but relationships rooted in love. It does not need a Christianity that has forgotten the story of self-giving love, but a body uncompromising when it comes to living self-giving love for the sake of a broken world. Make this our conviction. Amen.
