Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Ephesians 5:15-17
So be careful to live your life wisely, not foolishly. Take advantage of every opportunity because these are evil times. Because of this, don’t be ignorant, but understand the Lord’s will.

Thought for the Day: There are so many quotes from Abraham Lincoln that I enjoy, but one that might need to be heard by us today is:

I am a slow walker,
but I never walk back.

There is a beautiful balance in those words, a balance not seen much these days. It speaks of moving forward, but doing so cautiously and deliberately. It speaks of being mindful of every step, as backtracking can be painful. The world is moving forward, and we (the church) should never be seen as digging our heals in and opposing every step of progress. At the same time, by walking forward cautiously we can remain a relevant voice without supporting every fad or passing fancy.

Prayer: Lord God, we see in Jesus one who nudged forward those who were stuck, while also being able to draw back those who were stumbling down the wrong path. Provide us the wisdom that knows when to step forward with boldness and when to walk cautiously. Amen.

HAVE A SAFE
AND WONDERFUL
INDEPENDENCE DAY
