Scripture: Galatians 5:14
For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Thought for the Day: The Apostle Paul echoed the words of Jesus, while also embodying Jesus’ definition of neighbor that extended well beyond the person next door. Paul was looked upon with suspicion because he showed the love of Jesus to the Gentiles, and to anyone else who might be around. As I have thought about this central teaching of the Christian faith, I have been challenged by a question that has come to mind. Do my neighbors know I love them? Can they point to specific words and actions that communicate my unconditional love? And again, I’m talking about the neighbor as defined in the parable of the Good Samaritan. Personally, I find the question to be disconcerting, in part, because I fear many of my neighbors might not be able to think of a single example.
Prayer: As your limitless love continues to spill over me, Amazing God, I hope my capacity to love will grow and flourish among all my neighbors, near and far. Amen.
