Scripture
: Jeremiah 33:3
Call to me and I will answer and reveal to you wondrous secrets that you haven’t known.

Thought for the Day
: How exactly does God call? There is a scene in the movie Dead Poets Society when a student, Charlie Dalton, answers a pretend phone call during a rather tense all school assembly at the private boys school. He says, “Welton Academy, hello. Yes he is, just a moment. Mr. Nolan (speaking to the Head Master), it’s for you. It’s God. He says we should have girls at Welton.” This does not go over well at all. Later, Robin Williams’ character, calls out the student for the stupid prank. But then he adds, “Now if it had been a collect call from God, it would have been daring!” This has made me ponder how God calls. And if God calls, is it collect? I sort of think it might be. When God calls to us, it might be an amazing expression of love and support, but no matter how encouraging it might be, such a gift always comes with a responsibility. We pay for the call. Not in the traditional sense, but whenever God’s call of grace comes before us, it challenges us to be gracious ourselves. There is a cost for those who truly appreciate and accept the depth and beauty of the gift.

Prayer
: Call to me, Gracious God! Reveal your wondrous message to me, and in that revelation, show me the calling you have for my life. Amen.
