ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS

What does transformed look like to you? The Apostle Paul, in his Letter to the Romans, invited his readers to be transformed by the renewing of their minds so that they might discern the will of God. It sounds as if transformation is not the ultimate destination. Instead, transformation is what needs to happen for us to be in a place where we can discern the will of God. It’s almost as if people who think of transformation as the final result get there and then don’t know what to do next. But discerning the will of God, at least as I think about it, is something we should be doing all the time. Our lives are changing amidst a world that is changing, and simply saying, “I’m transformed” does not necessarily prepare us to be the people God needs us to be in that ever-changing world. Transformation puts me in a mindset where I might actually discern God’s nudge upon my life.

I need a lot of work, God, and I trust that you will guide me as I strive for the necessary transformation in my life. The world is in a state of continuous change, and if I am not in a healthy mindset, I will react to this ever-changing world in a way that is not very Christ-like. Help me reach a better place, a place where I can discern your hope for my life. Amen.
