Scripture: Isaiah 2:2
In days to come the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be raised above the hills; all the nations shall stream to it.
Thought for the Day: I have always found Isaiah to be both hopeful and discomforting. Though no one knows for sure, it might have been Isaiah’s intention to hold those two in tension with each other. Harsh criticism and judgement are quick to fly from the mouth (pen) of the Prophet, and much of it was probably deserved. At the same time, there are these incredible images that draw our eyes and hearts to God, and to the magnificent and magnetic love of God. These words speak of “all the nations” streaming to this place of welcome. And if it is “all the nations,” that seems to include those who were under the harsh criticism and judgment of the Prophet. Maybe there is something to learn about the redemptive and transformative power of love.
Prayer: Wherever your love is on display, O Lord who beckons us, let us be both aware and available to see and receive what is being offered. Amen.
