There is the old story of a woman who approached the famous violinist Fritz Kreisler immediately after a concert. She said to him, “I would give my life to play as beautifully as you just did.” Kreisler replied, “I did.” How many of us truly give our lives to something? It is a challenging question for people who claim to follow Jesus. What would it mean if we all were world-renowned virtuosos in the Jesus-life? In recent months, I have found myself returning to the words from Philippians 2 where Paul invited his readers to have the same mind (mindset, attitude) that was in Christ Jesus. We cannot expect Christ-like lives if we do not strive to the absolute best of our ability.
Good and Kind God, continue to invigorate our growth in Christ-like living. The world does not need poorly skilled amateurs when it comes to making real your unconditional and transformative love. Amen.
